03 – On the aim of my project

Image
Hey crew! How are you doing? Are you ready for a new post? Today I will explain you why my project is so important for Europe as well as for the rest of the world. I’ll be honest with you: this time the post will be a bit more boring than usual. So, get yourself a pillow before you start reading. “Forewarned is forearmed.” cit. I will start this post with some questions for you. I hope they will allow you a better understanding of the issues that I’ll be dealing with. Have you ever remained stuck in a traffic jam? For example: while you are coming back from school or from work, or maybe when you were going to watch a football match at the stadium. Probably, you were just cursing the closest driver or all the cars around you because maybe you were missing your train or you were going to arrive late to the meeting you had with your boss. Have you ever cursed the local administration while driving on a rough road? Probably you’re so used to drive in such terr...

Hey crew! How are you? I hope you have had a nice Christmas holidays with your family and I wish that a happy new year has started for you! Have you ever been visiting Chatsworth? You will probably say you have never heard about it before. Actually, me neither, I never heard about it till one month ago. Just know that Chatsworth House is a stately home in Derbyshire and it is one hour and a half by bus from Nottingham. It is the seat of the Duke of Devonshire and has been home to the Cavendish family since 1549. Standing on the east bank of the River Derwent, Chatsworth looks across to the low hills that divide the Derwent and Wye valleys. The house, set in expansive parkland and backed by wooded, rocky hills rising to heather moorland, contains a unique collection of priceless paintings, furniture, Old Master drawings, neoclassical sculptures, books and other artefacts. Chatsworth has been selected as the United Kingdom's favourite country house several times. You...

Hello, it’s me… (Adele, 2015… Sorry, I was joking) In this second post, I’m going to introduce my project. It is one of the 14 TRUSS (Training in Reducing Uncertainty in Structural Safety) projects funded by the European Union for the 2015/16. TRUSS is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network (ITN) funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 program and it is structured into taught modules combined with original and impactful research. Each project is supported also by secondments into external companies that will give to the candidates significant exposure and insights to research and innovation in both academia and industry. Therefore, currently I’m working as an Early Stage Researcher and PhD student in Civil Engineering based at the NTEC (Nottingham Transportation Engineering Centre) at the University of Nottingham. My supervisors are Dr Tony Parry and Dr Luis Canhoto Neves and, as I previously mentioned in the first post I wrote, the title ...

Hello, my name is Federico Perrotta (FP13), I’m Italian and I’m 26 years old. I’m a PhD student, Marie S k ł o do wska-Curie fellow, at the University of Nottingham and this is my blog. Here I’ll periodically insert (let’s say once a month) a summary of how’s going on my project and which are our plans for its future development. I’ll insert also news about trainings, meetings and conferences I think I should attend. It would be fun to discuss about what’s going on and any observation, question or suggestion is welcome. My background is Civil Engineering and in particular it is Transportation Engineering. I got my Bachelor in Civil Engineering at the   Università degliStudi di Parma   in Italy and I got my Master - specialized in Transportation Engineering - in Parma as well. How and when I decided to apply for a PhD position and start my research/academic career I cannot say precisely but I think the first time I got interested in research was during my...
